I'd always been disappointed that my HP DeskJet printer
doesn't have a built-in landscape mode, which comes in handy
when working with wide spreadsheets. Then I discovered that
Windows provides me with this capability--at least when I
print from Windows applications.
To use this feature, select File Printer setup from inside a
Windows application, or Printers from the Control Panel.
Next, select a printer (I select HP DeskJet Family on
LPT1:), then click the Setup button (if you're working from
the Control Panel, you have to click Configure and then
Setup). Select Landscape as the orientation.
Now you can use Windows' Modern, Script, and Roman fonts
while printing in landscape. I use this technique with
Excel, Word for Windows, and other applications.

Editor's note: The DeskJet isn't the only printer that can
use this trick. Any graphics printer will work in landscape
mode under Windows if the driver supports it. And you're not
limited to Windows' standard fonts if you have Adobe Type
Manager, Bitstream's FaceLift, or another Windows
font-scaling program.
